I can't breathe,
I'm below the surface.
Distorted shadows linger above.
My outstretched arm
reaches up for a savior,
someone or something to get me out of this flood.
Bruised and battered,
I won't last much longer.
Why did I ever dive into this storm?
Somebody save me,
I'm feeling the bottom.
My cries aren't getting past the thrashing waves.
But then I remember
my lips don't require movement.
I close my eyes and send up a prayer.
A peace surrounds me'
all senses surrender,
Now I know my cry has made it out of this place.
I find the one who saved me
was'nt so far at all,
He's the one with whom every moment I share.
In the midst of the storm,
you can change the outcome,
by acknowledging the one that put you there.
Author notes
I wrote this for a fine arts competition for school
and it ended up getting third place in the state.
