and it went downhill from there

I can't tell you the day it occured
or a specific time
for either one of my grandparents,
all I know is that it happened.

We first knew my grandfather had it
when it took him five hours to get home
from a twenty one mile drive.
We first knew my grandmother had it
when she kept saying someone was outside
when not a soul was to be seen.

And it did scare me
the things they said
the way they acted,
like they werent here.

My grandfather was the first to go,
not by alzheimers,
but by a stroke and heart attack all in one,
and I guess you could say he was lucky
or it was all just a difference of fate
but either way
at least he isnt suffering, unlike her.

My grandmother
she doesnt want to believe he's gone
or that anyone is gone
and it truly breaks my heart.

So she lives in denial
and thinks he's still here
along with her mother, and baby brother
she doesnt want to eat
as well as she used to
but I still hope
she'll remember nothing bad
because she doesnt have long already.

The eating thing seems to be a side effect of this. My grandmother doesn't eat well either. I just entered this and actually mentioned it my piece as well. Best wishes.

    I feel this too.

For sure the person who has gone on is far luckier than the one left with a disease they do not understand. It is hard for anyone to understand it but you penned this one well.
