Bloodless One

The chalice overflows
Deep burgundy reflects light
A hand brushes the cup
Liquid waves sway

For blood is pliable

Wine offers itself
As solace
Nourishment
Warmth
As it flows down the throat
Burning and soothing
Causing dreams

For blood heals

Fingers whisk the white cloth away
The ground from under him
Tidal wave of wine rolls
Over the table
Slowly seeps across the ground

For blood spreads

Heart pumps furiously
As though
Thirsting for blood
As life drains

For blood lives

All eyes turn
To watch the flood
Red is vivid
Sears the mind

For blood stains

Alcohol nectar dries
Body fluid cakes
As life and atoms wane

For blood dies

Yet the bloodless one lives

Author notes

My poem is a lateral look at the Easter story. The 'bloodless one' is Christ resurrected. I draw parallels between the wine and his blood.

    Comfort in calamity

    The chalice overflows

How many eyes were watching; are watching
For he who created time, all time is emanent. He walks in the garden in the cool of the morning, talks with Moses, the cross always before him

Often wine symbolizes the blood of Christ, the life-giving promise of redemption.

You have penned well to this contest with this contemporary piece. Very well done. Thank you for your entry and best of luck in the judging. ~Pamela

Thanks for your comment Pamela but I'm wondering why you see it as 'contemporary' when it's about Christ?

More of a contemporary style of poetry on an old old subject. I hope that clarifies it some. Writing style more than subject.

i love the imagery you used!
but tis kindof hard for me to understand. haha.
    maybe im just stupid.
what is the bloodless one?... wine?
and like in the first stanza when it seems like
its talking more about wine, and then you say
blood is pliable. i dont get it! ;]
    are you comparing the two?

I relly like the poem but it would be nice to
    understand all of it.

    Good write though!

Glad you like my imagery Robert. The poem's about the Easter story and parallels between the wine and Christ's blood. He's the 'bloodless one'. I've added that info to my author's comments because you're not the first that didn't understand it. Thanks for letting me know! (I can be a bit cryptic at times and if you didn't notice the contest it's in it would be hard to understand).

      Peace Georgia

    Almost Speechless

The slightly altered repeated parts are brilliant. And the end is simply magnificent. I don't know what else to say, I'm pretty much speechless! Best of luck in the contest... this is just amazing ♥
