Bobs' Birthday Ballad

Bobs’ Birthday Ballad

Your birthday again and time for an ode,
A year now has passed with a tale to be told.
Our time of anguish we fought side by side,
Doctors and hospitals; nowhere to hide.

The new year started well with you on the mend,
The medical profession turned into a friend.
They supplied you with pills to care for your ills,
And now you can even climb little hills.

Your laughing and calmish and glad to be here,
Although there’s no doubt you retain a slight fear.
Your happier now the washing to lug;
Looking much fitter; though your trousers are snug.

You still turn off your phone when I want to reach you,
And get in a stew when there’s too much to do.
You even upstaged me when I had my op,
Your fall in the bathroom I just couldn’t stop.

We had a few months when life was quite sweet,
Little did we know we had a challenge to meet.
When Derrick came tumbling way off his bike,
We saw yet another emotional battle to hike.

You stood by my side through confusion and pain,
Our solid relationship standing the strain.
You conquered your fears of hospitalization,
And joined in through the stages of realization.

I think all the pain has strengthened our bond.
And despite lack of money I’m still very fond,
Of our outings to Dawlish and sojourns in Wales.
With fun on the way and extraordinary tales,

To tell in our poems and stories of life.
I’m happy to be your friend and your wife.
You’ve always got time to give me a cuddle,
And comfort me when I’m all in a muddle.

I know very well I’m a bit of a strain,
My ideas go ‘swoosh’ and there’s always a pain.
I struggle along trying to make the ends meet,
I’m sure it was easier when I wasn’t a Leete.

But our love will no doubt help us along,
When we can’t pay the bills there’s always a song.
And although we’ll never be rich at this rate,
Always remember, you are my best mate.

A great little ditty, it almost carries its own tune. Very well written. Take care, keep the ink flowing and good luck in the contest.

Really cute. The rhyming was somewhat lazy on a few of the lines, but it told an inspiring story. It would have been more effective if you did not use so much inside information on the person, this was meant more for him to read than an audience. Good job though, and thank you for entering.
