The lady is almost a century old
she sits in her rocking chair as her heart and mind goes cold.
Mumbling she straightens out an unseen seam in her gown.
I inquire of her as to what she is saying.
For a few moments the fire is still in her eyes,
"I'm just talking to myself and the Lord."
She drops her head only to lift it again.
"He is the only one that knows how I feel."
I tell her that is okay because I understand
and I don't interupt.
The cancer is destroying in her brain what the dementia
hasn't, but still she has her moments.
Like when she is singing and playing out on the sheets
the notes that she would have played on the piano.
"God will take care of you."
"Yes he will my dear lady, yes indeed."
Then she is tired all over again and we put her back in bed.
All the while she is still humming hymns.
So we cut out the light and sing with her as she drifts off
to sleep.
Her humanity is still there, and when the fire goes out for good in her eyes, she will be alright.
She will still be in his care and mayble just talking to myself
will be with the Lord in person.
I believe that, how about you?
Author notes
The little lady has less than a few months two at best to live, her pain is increasing and I don't think it will be long. I believe she knows she is going home soon but wants to reassure me more than herself.

A nice write. You have a couple misspellings and typos, but I enjoyed the read very much. Thank you for entering.

This is both
sad and rewarding for you with the exception of dealing with her family who are slow to accept.
