The Lies He Cannot See

What lay beneath her azure eyes?
Has he e'er wondered this?
What dark deceitfulness and lies
are hidden in her kiss?

She hides them 'neath her sweet aspect
and in her gaudy laugh;
on her face one would ne'er expect
a secret epitaph.

'Tis etched upon her heart and soul,
bespeaks of dire portent,
this maiden who his heart she stole
surceasing her relent.

And still, look on! He sees it not,
though all the while she spins
her lies through which his heart she bought
and hid the dark within.

And now she pulls him in her snare
to use him as she will,
until she leaves him lost and bare,
all love and soul been killed.

What hides beneath her smiling face,
that false façade of truth?
Why does she woo him with her grace,
this calculating youth?

Alas! shall he ne'er see his fate,
until her plot completes,
and only then? but then-- too late!
His heart now left deplete.

no words of warning shall he heed,
no voice of reason heard,
no sound advice or desperate pleads,
no, not a single word.

Now thus we watch and only wait
until he's left alone;
now thus we watch her seal his fate,
Her, with that heart of Stone.

Author notes

I don't usually make my poems personal-- it's just not me. But I wrote this a little while ago because a friend of mine has this new girlfriend, and I've just got this... bad feeling about her. Something about her makes me nervous. I just worry about my friend because I don't want to see him get hurt. I've told him how I feel, and asked him to just be careful, and he said he'd do that. No more can I do, and no more will he hear, so all I can do is watch. I wrote this as a personal-indirect, insofar as while it is actually personally inspired, the poem itself does not actually mention me, nor my friend, merely an artistic construct meant to represent us. Whaddaya think? I wrote it out of frustration so it may not be any good.

Please tell me what you think

Wow, Dan, this is really good. And it reminds me so much of another relationship I know of. This is an amazing write! I've read your others, just don't have time to reply to them now (ran out of time!) but I haven't spoken to you in... wow... months and months.Although partly my fault, I know, but hope you're doing well hope your friend's relationship works out!
