Tailored suits
shoot icy stares.
I stared at my hands
while I packed, knew if I looked
children weep
for the lost,
drunk on bitterness
and empty promises.
Layers of earth
separate my cheek.
My eyes snap open
and I try.
It bobbed twice
before the water.
The sky threatens winter weather,
but the ground is bare, and cold...
left him to be forgotten beneath layers of ash.
Author notes
So, they don't really go together so well, but it was still really fun to see how it would come out!

EEk! This teacher sounds really mean!
Sounds like my oldest son's second-grade teacher, actually. She hated him and the icy stares are very descriptive.
COOL POEM!
