Author notes
I have nothing but respect for the men and women serving in Iraq. I have little but contempt for the ones who sent them there. I have a good friend who went through this with his son. Sorry I went so far to the Dark Side on this one.

Thanks for entering.
Good luck.

I liked this a lot. It was very interesting. I don't support wars of any kind because a war is vindictive terrorism(in my opinion anyway) and it causes so much damage that could have possibly been avoided. Though I've never known anyone who has gone through this, I can say that it hurts me just as much. Anyway, very nice job. Good luck.

this gave me a shiver. you used the prompt well, and congrats on your previous gold. Love, Lane

i wish the war(s) would end - there are so many who are being killed and people like you speak of here who are left in crazy states after showing so much promise in life - a good poem.

This poem is real good. flows nicely. Another winner!? I think everyone dreams of this dream. we were all programmed to want this. Well, the girls just a little different.lol * suggestion "Slid into college", these words were full of imagery, pefect, powerful!! But "Went to" and "Will be cared", I think could use more imagery/description. The story line is right on. What do you think? jennifer

A succinct and powerful piece on the macho mystique and the insanity of war. I'm sure you meant the last line in the ironic sense, but the burdens borne by both the afflicted and the nation are only beginning to be realized. I look forward to reading more of your poetry. Good luck in this contest. Peace, Liz

You state your case well, maybe you should visit the Dark Side more often!
