A Bark Ode

Missing image
It could only happen in the U S of A
The water grew colder day by day.
Soon all the puddles simply froze
There were even icicles on the puppy dog's nose.

All the leaves dropped off the tree
And it was as cold as cold can be.
The townsfolk thought that the tree would die
But someone had a solution they thought they should try.

So they went to the shops to buy wool by the pound
And soon all you could hear was a clicking sound.
And to show just how much they could care
Every adult knitted a coloured square.

Then they stitched together all those pieces
And made a coat as warm as sixteen fleeces.
They wrapped it around to keep the tree hot
And then changed its name to the Knit Knot.

Daily doses of lunacy? Hmm! Shouldn't that be nightly . I'm just mooning around waiting for more inspiration.
      Thanks for stopping-by

A Coat of Many Colors it is, indeed! This is a delightful ode to community spirit and action. Ah, the unexpected fun of living in a small, arty college town.
I guess you're right that maybe this could only happen in the "heart of it all." (Ohio's nickname)

We all have our own special kind of madness as you might judge by comment to Wandika about a local village that is realy "cuckoo" http://homepages.pavilion.co.uk/taxon/cuckoo.htm.
Having followed your link and read the story behind the picture I am glad that there are still such places be it the US, the UK or anywhere.
I hope your competition goes well and I thank you for its inspiration.

    Crazy

Surely nothing like this happens in Yorkshire.

      Oh yes it does Jim
We have well dressing ceremonies in Yorkshire not tree dressing . There is also a town that built walls around a tree to stop a cuckoo flying away (walls no roof ) and they still celebrate cuckoo day!!
The Americans do not have a monopoly on madness
