A cosmological curiosity that lines the universal womb.
Balm that wraps itself around the injured soul.
An instrument of torture that drives you from the room.
A steam-organ sonata on an old piano roll.
A beating inspiration for the military line.
Music for a death perhaps, yours I hope not mine.
Chinchilla softness.
Food for thought.
Composers hungry for success.
The wedding march, the christening, the sanctity, God bless.
A stove-in stave hung upon a staff.
A crotchety old man musing quavers for a laugh.
A brand new genre intellectually ordained.
Musicians sneaking sweeties while the harmonies remained.
Intervals for the interval and tea in china cups.
Melodic moods that give you downs and tunes that give you ups.
Artists tinkering with composers thinking on music yet to be.
Headphones on, I often ask, what music is to me.

Author notes
The biggest thing to change in my life this past year is my discovery of a love for making music rather belatedly. I cannot play an instrument but I make music with my computer, and I returned from my recent Mexico trip with three sets of maracas, and one rainstick. I've since added some tom tom drums and some sleigh bells. Even after all this, I wonder what on earth music actually is. Surely one of life's great mysteries.
