last year when I started to write.
It seemed to quench an appetite,
I found my thrill, within the quill.
It may seem strange, I needed a change,
I found that my musings were bland.
From writings that came from my hand,
I needed a change, it may seem strange.
There was a quirk within my work,
my friends said I needed a voice.
I had to change there was no choice,
within my work there was a quirk.
Trying to think, spilling my ink,
as I wrote my voice on the page.
I found my friends became my sage,
spilling my ink, trying to think.
My life depends, upon my friends,
they helped me grow you need to know.
They made it so, my friends I owe,
upon my friends, my life depends.

You have grown a lot - well, I don't know that for sure - but what I do know is that since I've known you, you've been on very high levels. Writing new forms and trying new things all point out an improvement - and making them good! That's where I feel pround of my excellent sis

I'm always proud of you my elf.

Beautiful write, Sis. The last stanza was powerful. That's the way I've felt too throughout the time I have been on this site. If it wasn't for the support of people here, I don't think I would have continued writing as long as I have. Thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest.

You help poets grow too, Amera. Excellent write.
I love you

You started to write a year ago! Wow I have a chance then, I started about 2 weeks ago. No space for my Jeff in your list, he would be number one in mine!
Wonderful poem though, I nearly forgot the important bit.

This is absolutely perfect. I, like Myra and Mairi, feel incredibly honored to be mentioned in this way. I am going to go out on a limb and speak for the entire group mentioned and say that all of us learn from you just as much. You are a personal inspiration to me unsurpassed, and a beacon of poetry the entire community loves and follows. I am humbled to be listed with the heavy hitters you have up there, all with advanced education in English and literature but me. Thanks for linking my name to such a perfect poem and for linking me to you.

"all with advanced education in English and literature but me"
not true
- maa is the most illiterate of the bunch, English as a foreign language, and never having picked up a poetry-book in her life ...
so she claims the last place in case there is a ranking !
go and move upwards, my friend ...

-
I stand corrected,
-
-
that was just a playful reminder that your worth as a poet and a human cannot be compared to any other ...
and although I bow down to all the intellectuals, scientists, doctors and other cultivated souls - I never forget that most sages, mystics and saints whose lives inspire mine, have never gone to university, and some of them are even illiterate ...

take care, my friend -

Simply amazing. I really enjoy reading your work. I have never seen a quatrain written like this before. You are a most gifted poet. Best of luck in the contest.
-
This is an amazing dedication. By the way, you've actually taught ME so much! I never really liked form poetry until I occassionally tried yours.
You're an awesome person and poet! Hope you do well in the contest!!!

Ah, Amera!
You write with such dedication and with such refined focusedness, there is nothing you can learn from me! Instead, you can truly teach me much about structure and finesse in applying rhyme schemes ... As you have demonstrated in this lovely and coherent poem, once again.
Apart from form, one of the best qualities of your poetry is the clarity in content. Poetry is not obscurity -- it is the simplicity, but colorful mathematics, of rhythm and rhyme -- even in free verse -- reflecting a meaningful, albeit musical message of coherence, not only individualized in voice, but also universally understood and felt. This, for me personally, is the definition of poetry that truly lingers in memory and in soul. I find all these aspects in your work.
Nevertheless, I am honored to inspire you in whatever way you may experience. That is the best compliment any poet can ever get. Thank you so much!
Al the best for your poetic growth and I am looking forward to reading more of you.
Thank you also for the compassion shown in the comment on the page of Cliff Spero.
Love
Myra
