(Contest) Truth

A smiling face looking out
Through colours and lines
Crafted in brilliance
But not my own

Hidden behind green and purple walls
I couldn't care less what you think of me
My true light, my true colours...
Shown only to me,
Known only to me,
Hidden inside.

The outward smile,
bold lines,
bright colours,
a picture of hope in a sea of black.
But I'm not who you see
That girl is not me

I give no heed to your thoughts in the shaping of my life
A life only I see
A lie you all beleive.

Author notes

I don't know where this came from. Really, it dosen't match your story, the one who is hiding is paining herself those colours in real life and dosen't care what others think... Take this as you will. Not my best piece but it's just what came out, and I've learnt when works just flow out not to touch them after

    Really great work

'My true light, my true colours...
    Shown only to me,
    Known only to me,
    Hidden inside.'

Such a deep, believable and memorable take on the picture provided.

So lovely to read new work that has been specifically written for this contest. Best of luck fellow poet.

Contest: Picture Prompt: "I am NOT green and purple!" - so you say! by JP.Troy

I couldn't care less what you think of me
My true light, my true colours...
    Shown only to me,
    Known only to me,
    Hidden inside.

I love those lines. Thank you for adding the author notes. It helped me when I read your poem through for a second time.

I am glad that you took the picture alone as inspiration as it has brought forth such an original piece. Even though you say you are not describing an artist painting another subject but rather a self portrait, you have captured what is intrinsic to every portrait. It is never solely the face of the subject that is shown, there is always something of the artist's heart colouring what is put on canvas.

    A smiling face looking out
    Through colours and lines
    Crafted in brilliance
    But not my own

This is why I don't paint self portraits. I can craft the smiling face but I want to be seen, that I have crafted so often on the front of my own head, and it is brilliant in its artistry but it is "not my own".

    The outward smile,
    bold lines,
    bright colours,
a picture of hope in a sea of black.
But I'm not who you see
    That girl is not me

I give no heed to your thoughts in the shaping of my life
    A life only I see
    A lie you all beleive.

I could go on for ages about how much I love this imagery. But that would detract from the flow of words that you mentioned in your author's notes, i will simply say thank you for letting the words flow.

Thank you for entering this contest. Good luck.
