Her Eyes

Still haunt me, big,

beautiful, dark pools

of sheer terror

I find myself pondering

her life, and

what it was like

I mean, I know she

must have been

someone’s daughter

sister perhaps, or even

young wife to be

with certain dreams

now belonging to God

as my nightmares

so pointedly remind.

  • I will only comment

on the merits of the poem, as I understand this is a deeply personal write.
Excellent response to the prompt. Somehow, I knew you'd choose this one. In fact, I was thinking of you when I chose to add this line to the choices.
Anyhow, brilliant write. It is intense, quick, and a painful reminder of the horrors we face as humans. It has a very bitter, caustic tone - yet one full of remorse and regrets.
One of the most emotional, touching writes I've ever read - a sad tale so explicitly told in few words.
    Wonderful entry!
This one will haunt me forever.

  • Deep and says a lot to me.

Oh dear, this is so intense. You leave us wondering what happened really, and where...but it's not important. The feeling you had as you took her big beautiful eyes in your conscience is what matters the most. Of course, there is a big tragedy at the heart of this, but your reflections sensitise us... we need to say no to many things that take us to violence for no good reason. Very well written, MJ. Congrats.

  • This is a voice coming from the deep of the heart and making us to know the sentiments of your inside..quite touching and quite heartfelt verse you have portrayed here ...
