Do You Really Want to Know What GOOD Poetry Is? Read These Poets (Part I)

Missing image

Please, no hurt feelings if you aren't on this list...YET;

this is the first in a series. I chose to list people I have known for years

& admired the longest...They are in no particular order.

Please read my author's notes below.

http://www.allpoetry.com/wattle (who still insists he's not a Poet)

And there are so many more yet to come...

Author notes

Art: "Poetic Muse" by Alphonse Mucha

"If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there
is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper.

Without a cloud there will be no water; without water,
the trees cannot grow; and without trees, you cannot make paper.

So the cloud is in here. The existence of this page
is dependent upon the existence of a cloud. Paper
and cloud are so close."

~ Thich Nhat Hahn
"Engaged Buddhism"

Quotation courtesy of Thoreau47...
who knows these words by heart.

Painting: "Poetic Muse" by Alphonse Mucha

Drawing: "A Swan for Swanee", by ILTL4eva7 ~
Kelsey drew this beautiful picture for me when she was only 14. It belongs on this page.

I adore each & every one of you.
But then, you already knew that.
Or should, by now.

Please, no hurt feelings if you aren't on this list...YET; this is the first in a series. I chose to list people I have known for years & admired the longest...(except for one or two, who still belong on this first list, as they have so impressed me with their gifts). They are in no particular order, except for the first two; Kelsey led me to AP in June 2004 & Ian was one of my very first commenters. I've loved all of these people for a very long time. I've read their work until I wept for the grace of beauty, for the soul they pour into every poem they write. Become familiar with their work; you'll be glad you did. Everyone on this list has inspired me in so many ways. Check out my own list of favorites (highlighted below). You'll see why I stopped where I did. lol.

I will do other lists as I have time, which is very precious these days.

If you'd like to, please leave a name or two in your comment;
I'm quite sure there's genius out there I have yet to encounter.

    plus numerous on my front page are ecellant poets also for the above reasons you have mentioned in your various responses to people who have left messages.

    Can we nominate ourselves also? I do not mean to be egotistic but from comments left on my poetry and homepage I feel that I am a poet that should be on any list that promotes GOOD Poetry with messages in a lot of my poetry. But that is other people's opinions and comments about what I write.

    Thank ever again for another list of someone else's favorite poets, and I have read most works by about 50% of the poets you have listed and could not agree with you more about their writing abilities. The other 50% of your list is bookmarked so that I can meet other poets in this community.

    O.O

    Oh my goodness, Swanee! This is... wow. The amount of work (and heart) you've put into this is amazing - and so very characteristic. I feel humbled to be included with such wonderful poets... in my head, I'm still the 13-year-old who wandered to this site writing poems about werewolves and vampires, and I can remember being awed by some of these poets even then.
    I'm so grateful for you, Swans. :-D You've been my encouragement and inspiration for years, and seeing something like this reminds me how well off I am by having you to look up to. I love you lots, my literary mommy!

    Bravo!

    I must applaud you for this endevor. This is a brilliant idea, it enables new poets and old ones alike, the ability to re-visit or discover new poetic verse and ability. It also helps each and everyone of us to strive harder or be able to just sit back and enjoy poetry at its finest. I know that it makes it so that I can fall in love with poetry all over again.

    Thank you,

    Rev. Alimae

    A fine line up of poets that are known to me and those that are not I shall look forward to reading. It's a lovely gesture to promote and introduce other poets, it is possible that some simply pass, like ships in the night, never meeting or greeting and by providing links you leave us free to find them and enjoy the embrace of good poetry. Well done Wanda.

    good poetry

    Hello there.

    I recognize some of the names on this list and know that they have talent in the way they use words - which is what true poetry is.

    I'll look through some of the ones I don't know, because it's so difficult finding good poetry sometimes.

    Thank you very much for your hard work.

    Have an awesome day,
    BJ.

(I know, you couldn't see her name for all the brilliant lights shinin') Lorena & Gina will be on a future list, as soon as I have the time. The other 2, I'm not familiar with, so thank you for leaving their names. If you enjoy Lisa's work, that's a good enough recommendation for me. Be well, Poet. Wanda

      My first impression would NOT be to attempt to trash the genuinely sincere efforts of someone trying to promote the arts & artists that live their words. Did you bother to read my author's notes? These are people I've known for years, which is why I called this list "Part I"; I intend to post other lists of people I've met since then, as time permits, like I said. These are Poets & Scribes who deserve to be read & savored. They are NOT people who try to humiliate someone on purpose. I don't enjoy cruelty or attempts at degradation, nor do I consider it a becoming quality in a person. Actually, I consider it a shortcoming.

        No, I did not read anything, I gave you my very first impression, you can value or devalue it as you like... Suggestion- rather than just link to the authors, pick out a nice example from each, I was expecting poems here!

          I worked my weary ass off to do this much. Surely you can click on a link & read something...anything of theirs will do. They are ALL consistently good writers. "Expect" all you like, Wayne. I certainly DIDN'T expect such a negative reaction from anyone, least of all from someone who should, by now, know better. I'm done discussing this. You're detracting from my purpose in posting this to begin with. I won't waste any more energy debating a non~issue with you or anyone else, for that matter. You've offended me with your sour~grapes attitude. Thanks for using up 50 of my hard~earned points for your click, then gaining 8 more with your seemingly~bitter diatribe. Go 'way. Well, Wanda, when I saw your title I said to myself, "Wanda is really asking for trouble here!" for I though you'd get a lot of sneers from those outside your views (especially from those young males from Mars!) but I see you have a lot of positive responses here...

    Before I even look I'm assuming that your catalog is filled with over-stylized adult whispering infatuation-love poetry, wholly lacking in any meaningful insight, content, or emotion outside in any of life's other endeavors...

    I've often thought of compiling compendiums based on the writings of this site from time to time, maybe someday I'll have time, and now I may begin where you left off, for you appear to have that one narrow slice heavily covered, though I'll have to verify my initial assumption;

    Now what will one find who is not excited by voice, verbiage, metaphor, form, or cliquish styles as much as the underlying content, in spite of one's creative flair with the formers? For now, let me see if my assessment is correct about my 'adult whispering' classification, or shall I be surprised with a variety of writing that spans a wide range of human thought, situations, existence, conflicts, and emotion... but three stars for the work you have done this far...

    from that old needle in your side,
    me!

      Ehhh, bite me, Wayne. There is a wide range of writing represented here. Many are socially~conscious & very contemplative, distinguished by various philosophies. And since when have you become so jaded about passion??? I'm talking about LOVE, not pornography poorly~disguised & misclassified as "erotica". There are writers on this list from all over the world. As I stated, it's only the first list. I don't know how you can possibly justify anything you said; everyone on this list is an incredible talent in their own right. Still stirrin' the inevitable pot, are ya??? Well, tough cookies, kiddo. They all earned their spot on this page. Geez. Some people.
