In a room
waiting, heart beating,
waiting for the steps,
the hard steps of men,
who are looking, watching for a sign.
And sign that should lead
to a runaway slave girl
hiding in the shadows,
the girl is waiting,
waiting, heart beating
as fast as a race horse,
waiting, breath withheld,
until the men turn the other way.

This is such a sad poem... yet you instilled the element of fear in this... that was amazing how you weaved the emotions so well in this simple and short poem!
"waiting, heart beating" - Very good! loved the way you repeated this line twice... great job! Very simple poem... quick read... yet so emotional! thanks for this poem... thanks for entering! best wishes!
Much love always,
Ranji
