She asked: How long do they say I have to live?
I put my arms around her and whispered:
We are not talking of days anymore,
and then withdrew to hold her hand.
I long to put my arms around her,
and wish that I can retract my words,
as I now would have lingered longer,
and said: I do not know, but I love you.
Instead, I asked her: How do you feel?
She replied: I am at peace.
I so wanted to hold my arms around her,
but for her frailness I could not.
By her bedside I stood blind,
not knowing that she within hours,
would take her leave
to forever be with her King.
On his chair in cover sheet,
he silently sat, aware of none,
but Im sure he knew she had gone,
for his journey seemed to have begun.
We mourned her Rest, as she had planned,
while in his room he silently sat,
but she did come to say good-bye,
for he uttered the name of his precious Pearl.
She left him widower for thirteen days,
and after a marriage of 52 years.
Alone, like her, he awaited his call
that would unite them, in Heavenly place.
While I now saddened sit on rainy day
revisiting another March, as in every year,
my heart is at peace, knowing that
they are at the feet of my loving King.

Author notes
In loving memory of my parents 'Bez' and 'Pearl' who passed away 13 days from each other in 2002.
I now have made some slightly changes.

Death is the end of life and the beginning of other things known to us in faith, I think you saw the beauty of life in these lives -so very dear to you, and the lesson of faith that brings peace to us now and always. A wonderful legacy has been left in your feelings... PK

A lovely tribute...
A lovely tribute to the memory of your parents; it's certainly tough to cope with the loss of a parent, but to lose both in less than two weeks (not having enough time to mourn the first death); hopefully, you have God's peace during that difficult time. --Joe

Thanks for your comments
and letting me also stop by. Yes, their death taught me many things, but most of all of the peace in knowing that both have Jesus in their heart. Frans

Amazing
So sorry for the loss of your parents here. I see you find peace in knowing they are with the Lord. Oh my the if only's that go through our thoughts. I have them often. Your parents must have been so in love for they say many of times when an older couple of many years looses their mate soon after they follow to deaths door. Gods will? or Broken hearted? Don't know in these kinds of situations. I can just tell you adored your parents and you loved your mum. I'm sure they just adored you too as well. Excellent poem in honoring your parents. Thank you for sharing your gift to share yourself through poetry with me.
Much love & blessings

Kelle Marie, thanks for reading the poem. I know you know the heart, but never can a parent's death be equal to that of a child. God bless. Frans

This is a beautiful tribute. I always thought it comforting when my father would refer to a person's passing as being 'called home'. It does not lessen our grief, nor does it take away the ache of missing them, but what a comfort to know they are in a better place than we- and all the angels singing for joy at thier arrival.
This is a lovely write.

Preparing for Church ...
and on my way to the widow and son of Cliff Spero afterwards, I can but be silent in the presence of the Known God, who numbered our days and who wrote our names in his Holy Book, long before we were born ...
I remember with you the losses of 2002, which were precious gains in Heaven. What a beautiful and vulnerable write, yet strong in its belief in the LOVE of our KING.
Love to you, my friend.

Myra, thanks for the kind and endopathic words. I guess I was triggered by Cliff's passing, but as you know, certain times within the human clock there rings an emotional bell recalling thoughts. These accentuate our humaness, something I am unafraid to deny. God bless, and thank you for stopping by.

Aboslutley amazing writing Fran,
i do believe that you write best when telling of your own feelings it comes out on me too.
This is very emotive but healing to in a way, it is romantic in a way that he joined her in a matter of days. My parents passed in the matter of 12 weeks, Daddy knew ihe would go because he said he wanted to and then just gave up. they were married 54 yrs.
You expressed a deep part of you in this brilliant poem. Thank you so much for allowing me the pleasure of reading it.
