A pair of black swans,
showing white tipped wings, takes off
from the rippled lake,
disturbing the reflection
of the distant misty shore
where, awaiting spring,
tall trees, like black skeletons
against a grey sky,
cast upside down reflections
on the grey water's surface.
It is barely dawn
as chortling kookaburras
laugh in a new start
of what, in its wat'ry light,
promises a brand new day.
