In the Eyes of A Child

Let her live to eat her dinner
It's only an hour away,
Give her battered knuckles a little rest,
Let the pain belay.

The hint of whiskey on your breath
Becomes quite hard to bare,
Her broken wings become so fragile
And need time to repair.

Your drunken voice begins to boom
Throughout the corridors of the house,
She runs up the steps,
Like a game,
But you hold on to her blouse.

You slap her face and it felt like a kiss,
Many she never got.
A river begins to stream down her face
But you refuse to stop.

Her withered arms
Reach out,
Looking for embrace,
It's comical how abuse is seen
In the eyes of a child.

The rhyming is off, rhythm in some places is a little off, but I had it in my head and wanted to get it down. I'll clean it up later on tonight.

I'll definitely check back when you clean it up, but you've got a great start and a great idea here.

    I wouldn't change a thing.
I think it flows very nicely...
I hate that children are abused...it's a terrible thing to go through...
and i think you've portrayed very well in this poem

    I'll have to come back

when you clean it up, but suffice it to say that the subject is noble and the message is clear.

Tis brought me to tears. Too many children go through this, yet do not understand that it is wrong. They shouldnt have to. These kids go through life thinking that they are terrible, terrible people, that they deserved what has happened to them, and feel that this is just "punishment" I truly wish this was not so. All we can do is to stand up and protest when we can! I remember one time I was 8 months pregnant at walmart, and this man was constantly yelling at his kid to sit on the floor (we were in the customer service department) The kid didnt want to, so the man grabbed the child by the neck and started backhanding him, Someone stepped in, guy told him to mind his own business. I stepped in and grabbed the kid, told the guy if he had the guts to hit a kid, I would like to see him try to hit a pregnant woman Needless to say The cops were called, Boy went home safe with his grandmother- who had no idea this was going on. It makes you feel good to stop something line that. Ok I have rambled on enough, I wouldnt change a thing. You did a wonderful job expressing yourself on this topic, which is a very difficult topic. Kudos!

this is an amazing write, i wouldn´t touch it if i were you as it pertays the message so well, as haunted menory says, many children don´t see this as abuse, the only blame themselves for everything, think they must deserve, try their whole lives to rectify the mistakes that were never there, all they want is love, great write.

Brovo you have managed to write here what many do not understand about abuse. a child will not see this as abuse especially as it is the one they love so much doing it to them. All they preseve to see is they have done wrong and wish with open arms to say sorry and be forgiven. It saddens me in life that anyone could do this to a child but a fact of life it has been going on for years and I am unhappy in saying until the world sits up and gets off its ass to do something about it for real instead of pussy footing around with red tape it will continue.
