“Whither” said my pal the Owl

“Whither” said my pal the Owl,
“Shall we two wend?” Whereto
I responded, cheek by jowl,
“Do you mean, friend, where to?”
Then the amiable fowl
Stated “Whither, where too!”
Adding but an extra vowel.
I consented thereto.

Nightly, when the wind does howl,
Owl, and I too, care to
Wrap our two heads in a towel –
One that we two share, too,
When the weather is too foul
Our two heads to bare to;
And “To-whit to-whoo,” sings Owl –
Notes so sweet, and fair too!

  • Excellent. So pleased to see a beautiful trophy on this piece. Very very good. I think you are so creative and talented to write a wonder like this. Very entertaining. A joy to enjoy. ~Pamela

  • Wonderfully penned! Absolutely stunning Should 'our heads to bare to' possible be 'our heads too bare too'?

No, the grammatical construction here, just using the operative words, is: "too foul to bare (our heads) to"

At least I think that's what you're asking me.

I feel like I've been excellenly schooled in the
two, too, to dilemma... which I needed to be since I have been found guilty of switching the to for too
and not realizing the difference, but NEVER the two for to or too.. so I guess one out of two isn't too bad?
Mairi, you shine so brilliant on this dark cloudy day
that I feel the warmth from a sun not there!

In her tutu and her cowl,
      With her golden hair too,
      Gaylene, on her nightly prowl,
Pulls the barn door there to.
She and I - when tomcats yowl -
We two, they too, dare to
Throw coins to the singing Owl,
      Who says we're unfair to!

      I couldn't resist it!

Look, clever clogs... YOU know that female owls go "To-whit" and males go "To-whoo", I know that female owls go "To-whit" and males go "To-whoo"... Can I help it if this particular Owl has gender indentity issues?
