What I Learned at the UICA:

At the UICA every work of art tells a different story.
The voices of 30 artists, thinkers, people and individuals arise.
Nothing is without meaning.
You ask about the impact of science and technology on our society.
At the UICA you’ll see it.
The minds of 30 human beings are reaching out there;
from the walls, the floor and hanging from the ceiling.
They perceive and feel the pain that we all feel.
The world is constantly changing, evolving and mutating.
It is not, however, advancing.
The world is trying to keep up with us.
We are the would-be advancers, the leaders in our fields.
Improving upon the lives of human beings, we strive for progress.
There are two sides to this progress; the equilibrium must hold.
With the spread of technology comes the retreat of nature.
She becomes buried under everything made obsolete.
Humans continue to find new ways to kill themselves while would-be survivors starve.
Poisons called medicines are the weapon of choice for today.
What about tomorrow?
We can save lives now, but not all are equal.
Who are we to say which life is worth more?
Self-destruction is our motivation it seems.
We fail to see the picture in its entirety.
At the UICA, each work is a small piece of the frame.
We must look to the past in order to save our future.
Advancement, you say?
I see only ruin.
There is a blurred line dividing nature and human ingenuity.
We try and we fail to imitate her.
She will come full circle again, and correct our mistakes.
We are responsible for our fate.
Nothing is done to prevent global warming.
We are not upholding our end of the bargain.
Costly wars are waged for a deflated purpose.
It is in our nature to destroy one another.
We take and we take and we give nothing back.
The earth is going to be exhausted before the race is run.
There are precious few pure, untainted materials remaining.
We must go either up or down, the center will be forsaken.
Are we better off with this advancement you speak of?
The bad outweighs the good, so the doctor says.
From any perspective, it is clear that we are suffering.
As a society, we are suffering.
Within our sects, we suffer.
With the end of one plague, another rises to take its place.
The names and faces are different, but the aim is akin.
Wave after wave of new problems will pommel us.
We can only spit out answers at a fixed rate.
There is no guarantee that they will even be acted upon timely.
We dig ourselves a deeper trench, gutting everything in our path.
Nothing is sacred; nothing is worth holding on to.
There is only us, and survival now.
But, who are we to judge whose life is worth more?
At the UICA, it is clear that the one life that is most worth saving is in the most danger.
That life is the EARTH.
Science and technology are the creations of man.
Man must, first and foremost, protect his home.
Our home is dying of cancer, flesh wounds and lacerations, suffocation, thirst and hunger.
Where are those advancements you spoke of?
Come and solve the EARTH.
