King and Queen

The King rises slowly
from his dark sleep,
to sit upon that throne all day long.
He moves gracefully for all to see,
but shows no mercy
to his subjects down below.

He watches as his people struggle
against all heat from enemies,
struggling with the drought he watches,
as if unable to stop its progress.

As the day rolls on
the King is still there,
rolling on his path to his resting place,
where he will rise again.

But in that night the Queen will come,
following the King’s path to the throne.
she sits there gazing upon her nation
with all her majesty.
She shows us the way through the darkness of night.

We sleep with the Queen looking through our window,
her shining face a comfort to all,
when she looks away the gloom settles back
into the valley of the people.

She turns back to us with a smile on her face,
drifting off the trail to sleep,
and while she sleeps the King comes out again.
to watch his land wake up again in the brightness of day.

The King and Queen watch this land,
through the ages they roam,
for centuries they have ruled this world,
and they will never die.

Very nice work! But not for this contest, though I'm afraid. It is more of a mideval-type of poem. Other than that, I really enjoyed this enjoying read!

I know this is really late in replying to your comment, and we haven't really talked in a while, but I just wanted to say that this is not a "mideval-type of poem". Its about the sun and the moon. If you had read my authors notes you would see that that was what it was about. Talk to you soon! I'm glad to be back online!
