Granola Girl I: The Ballad of Andrea

She doodles Ani DiFranco lyrics
into her flower-bound notebook
'cause she's too shy to look at her own.

She only sings musicals
retouted as films
'cause that's the only proper way for them to be shown.

"Polyestor paisley printed tunics
(direct knockoffs from the East Village)
Made of nothing but anti folk scene contradictions.

A regular granola girl
too soft for this world
but too tough to dispose her convictions."

She dreams of the city
for only that so dense could keep her afloat
Oh, how she pines for tenament chic.

To be, but that of a real artist
who doodles more then remembrances on the sidewalk
Who creates instead fusion, fanatical, unique.

So sing your ballad of coffee and cigarettes,
and arthouse movies done only in French
And visions of Napoleon faint.

Your hair the scent of dreadlock shampoo
will never cease to repel me
Your voice, a pure, could never taint.

***
But those wild dreams,
may someday paint...
a home, meandering

for me and her,

her and I.

{as long as we can cry, unconditionally....
  doodles of Ani DiFranco}

Author notes

A poem about my dear friend...she's really just like that...

My math teacher, dare I say, thought up the whole "granola" subject, when he referred to Regina Spektor as "granola music"

Quite clever, really.

I think this could be a song...she could sing, but that would be akward, like a form of mastaurbation, singing about yourself this way...

Very cute poem, Hippie, and very sweet. I liked the, you know, little pop culture references and examples and such.

    Awesome sauce. have two clappies.

    Ha, I lied, three.

    • Thanks girl!

I really like that. Very good. You are talented. It's rare to see such a realistic outlook in someone so young, and, even more rare that this person is able to express it so well.

hahaha on your notes, yes, I wonder how performers manage it sometimes, but you're right this is a song. Interesting portrait study too - would leave off the her and I thing though, sounds awkward. Maybe try "for only some place that dense could keep her afloat."

Those don't fit, but I can't seem to dispose of them...I really want this to be a love poem.

But it didn't come out that way...that's because I know zilch about "love"...just hormonal physical attraction.
      Thanks.

Thanks...my math teacher is quite silly...and the mastaurbation part refers to a line in the book/movie "High Fidelity".

      Watch it. It's hysterical.

This is simply excellent. Contrary to your request, I can find nothing to correct. Absolutely nothing I didn't fancy. I love your metaphors and vivid descriptions... wow. Just wow.
