The Ghost of A Half Moon

Ghost of a half moon
      haunts the sun of afternoon
            by the glass canal, shatterproof.

Below dark water, fishes swim,
sabal palms stand; rust on gray limbs,
          twisted branches bewitch the sky.

Grackles scavenge
      from final picnic; late adventurers
          accompanied by sound of crickets.

Child in cowgirl boots of pink;
'couple kids on monkey bars, few
folks fishin'; it's critters that own this place

Outright; grassy fields, clouds white
and bright; beneath a big ol' shade tree,
I listen to sleek black birds' chatter

See the sheen of feathers
in light strips; while green parakeets
        nearly camouflage amidst oval leaves

I'm pleased; as otherwise,
all that's round are saw palmetto fans
and those trees whose names I've yet to learn.

The things I've longed to know but never can,
at last, they drift away. .  .  .

    The world and its sights
rush to be in your vision
    to be described so lovingly,
    in picturesque detail!

May your longings come to be.

Actually day two of a birthday
so lots of time on the phone
        and with family and friends.
Had to stay up this a.m.
        to make business calls
        at appropriate times.
the plight of the day sleeper!
