the true meaning
of sacrifice
until I became a soldier.
To have everything I want
and let it slip away
no matter the pain-
because my life is not my own.
I never knew
the true meaning
of selfless service
until I became a soldier.
Putting others needs
before my own
no matter the cost-
because I serve my country first.
I never knew
the true meaning
of duty
until I became a soldier.
To do what is asked of me
without question or hesitation
no matter the price-
because my job is my life.
I never knew
the true meaning
of achievement
until I became a soldier.
To attempt the "impossible"
and make it a reality
no matter the challenge-
because I refuse to give up.
I never knew
the true meaning
of friendship
until I became a soldier.
To always have each others backs
and unwavering loyalty
no matter the situation-
because we are a family.
I never knew
the true meaning
of pride
until I became a soldier.
To hold my head up high
and know that I am making a difference
no matter the criticism-
because I am an American Soldier.
Author notes
Joining the Army changed my life because it gave a whole new set of values to define my life by. It set me new challenges, new goals, a new way of looking at my life.

VERY Good.
Very good poem. You draw readers emotions out by expressing your own feelings, wonderful! Though you may not always feel appreciated, there are those of us who know you are making a great sacrifice on our behalf, and we thank you. Wonderful write, good job.<3 Less

Strong Soul
That is what it takes to do what you do. Only the strong can serve this country. That is all I would want next to me in a foxhole. I would want you next to me.

I don't like war, And I want world peace but I think it is nessesary to fight for some things. I like How it shows the true faith of a soldier and it reminds me of just how easy we have it in canada and the U.S sometimes everyone seems to forget about the people risking there lives everyday to protect each and every one of us! Great Poem
