my floors are oak and old,
They've been through countless accidents,
they seem to have a voice of their own,
they love to laugh at me,
when I'm cleaning up broken cockery,
they love to smell cupcakes being made,
and the sounds of our dogs,
running through the house,
when we forget mop the floors they complain,
but when we sweep they hate being tickled,
my floors are always there to catch me when I fall,
my floors have seen so many things,
but no tuperware parties yet,
they are glad when I leave for school each morning,
people say that floors are good to walk on and that's it,
but floors are really good to catch you,
when you slip,
and thank goodness that my floor was there to cradle me,
when my dog that I loved died,
floors are good for so many things,
but the best thing that floors are for,
is that they will always be there when you need them.

Beautifully said... a lot of heart in this poem...
Smiling and imagining your kitchen and think there's a lot of love and nurturing there.
Fine writing, dear poet.
