one who pulls the strings

wandering walk of dissatisfaction
i follow not a hope to hold
i am a brain dead leashed
wood puppet
dangling from the proverbial strings
driven by my elders visions
i strive to achieve their recognition
there's always one more step ahead
leading toward some blinding sadness
through my blurry eyes i ponder
am i happy in these headlights
i think not
my head will start to turn
but your weight is falling down on me

You are always bound for sadness when you live for the approval of others.
    It may be a lover,
    it may be the lord..
    it may be the devil.....
you lose if your waiting for that nod of acceptance...

So deep is the need to please the ones we love we sometimes lose our way and turn bitter and surrender our own dreams for those who were sure we should have other dreams...

...Am I happy in these head lights....

Excellent, for there in lies the question.
you have the way and the will to control your live.
And never let any one drag your heart around lassie.
Great write , ya always get me thinkin.

    BLESSINGS GYPSY,
    LOWELL

Great piece on being at the whim of the puppet masters, even those we do not realize are holding our strings. Great use of open imagery that allows me to enter the thoughts from my own perspective and determine how they relate to the particular emotions (about the subject matter) that reside within my own tangled web of feelings.

This reminds me of a song by, "Collective Soul" with the same message. We really have little choice as the position of the 'elders' does affect our lives. More and more as I grow older I see their nuances in my mirror whether welcome or not. I am the product of their lives and ideas. I am the product of their beliefs and I cannot escape. It is not 'all' a bad thing to have the influence, some is good and some to be discarded. Either way it is a weight that being human presents because we do have a past and a history full of those before us. Perhaps they failed miserably or excelled, it is still our heritage. Excellent write and if I did not catch your personal intentions in the piece it is of no matter. This is how the poem affected me and since I am the reader, my word is final on my side of your page. I had a couple of their albums. I remember Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid. I find myself constantly in disgust, we hand our problems off to the next generation without claiming any responsibility. It has just been a problem handed down, when we never stop to think maybe the way we live is a problem, maybe the things were are taught to value are a problem, maybe it is a problem with the way we look at the world. This reminds me of a few songs on the album "Smash" by The offspring
While some things that have been handed down have been good, I feel like "good enough" has been the standard for too long. Especially in the masses. It is also disheartening when even the best things inherited are used in ways that are destructive and greedy.

Thank you for all your thoughts and long comments. I am really thankful to have a sounding board of sorts here.

You did not fail to understand my point here at all. In fact any points you have brought to the table were the intent of this and all my poems' manufacture. I like to hear what other get out of it. It is the beauty of the world. We both see the same thing but we perceive it differently. Without these type of communications and relations it would be impossible to be well-rounded, and not jaded. Thanks Again! Leah
