[as i sit here]

as I sit here on my
overstuffed chair I see her
in the kitchen
making hot chocolate

her eyes are so blue - crystal -
they anesthetize me    her body
curves in all the right places

my head trumpets
when she glides into
a room    she reads aloud

and makes me sweat, longing
for her scent on my shoulder
waiting for the hour she'll
realize that I am not

'just a friend'
I'm the one she cries on
when a boyfriend dumps
her over email or text
message or just doesn't
call

the tears linger on her face
before they land naive
on my blouse

Not one of my favorite feelings either.
Wonderfully sad poem! It's sweet in that fact too

  • Sometimes that happens with friends and it just isn't meant to be. Good write
