Verse One:
I look out of my window
All I see is sin
The streets are full of cigarette butts
Why is this happenin’?
Jimmy didn’t look both ways
Before he crossed the street
His life just flashes before his eyes
His death he’ll almost meet
Finally, a lesson learned
In a valley of despair
A life is saved, not sacrificed
And they don’t even care
Chorus:
What has happened to all of the sanity?
What has happened to the Christianity?
What happened to everything that I know and love?
What has happened to my uncorrupted childhood?
What has happened to everything that’s good?
Was it all sucked into a vortex from above?
Verse Two:
I look out of my front door
Sanity is growing thin
Somebody is robbing the neighbors
And Jimmy’s in the street again
A girl has been abducted
She was reported missing on the news
Her mother finally regrets
All the drugs that she’s abused
The girl is lost and cold
And 5 years old
She doesn’t know if she’ll heal
She’s sick, confused
And eternally bruised
All she knows is she has to deal
Chorus:
What has happened to all of the sanity?
What has happened to the Christianity?
What happened to everything that I know and love?
What has happened to my uncorrupted childhood?
What has happened to everything that’s good?
Was it all sucked into a vortex from above?
Hook/Bridge
Amidst all the worry
How long can this world live?
And through all of the pain
How much do we have to give?
I fall upon my knees
And tears soon fill my eyes
In my mind I start to think,
“Are we wasting His sacrifice?”
Chorus 2x:
What has happened to all of the sanity?
What has happened to the Christianity?
What happened to everything that I know and love?
What has happened to my uncorrupted childhood?
What has happened to everything that’s good?
Was it all sucked into a vortex from above?
Spoken: In this world of turmoil, turbulences, and capriciousness, it is a wonder that we have lived this long, and I marvel at how we can do so. All we can do is love, persevere, and pray that we aren’t killed in the process. With a little faith, love, and compassion, maybe, just maybe, everything will be alright.

Author notes
I'm actually not certain why I wrote this one. It's just, you see all this junk on the news about people killing people and I decided to write about it. Option 22.

Y)eah you really do see all this and more... It's a shame really the world is this way, instead of going with more kindness and cleanliness, but I suppose we know no different.

Yeah.
I think the world was perfect at one point.
Then humans were brought in.
Some helped the world while others destroy it daily,
Which is how I thought of this poem.

I absolutely fell in love with this song and all it contained and all it had to say. I would love to hear this put to music. I would be such a beautiful song! Oh I could see it now! I have things running through my head. It says that you are 13.. and that must mean you are very bright for your age. And very talented. IF you haven't already put this to music, or don't have a friend who would or anything. You should consider doing something with these lyrics. This is amazing! I absolutely think that this song has a lot of potential!

Aww!
Thank you so much! It's such a shame what that this wonderful earth has to deal with from us crazy humans. I've put some lyrics to the verses, but not yet to the chorus. And yes, I'm thirteen, and I've been writing since I was 4 (unfortunately, I usually just threw away my work from my earlier years till I realized I had a passion for it,). Thank you for commenting, it really brightened my day!

I think this is very good. I don't think that our ancestors are looking down on us like that. Look at the Incan civilization. They killed people because they believed they had to appease their Gods. Look at all the war in human history. That's what we're based on. Now that doesn't make it anymore right, but we're just conditioned to fight, I think. Anyway. This is a really great write. I enjoyed it a lot. Great job. Alyssa

I dont think our ancestors are wondering whats going through our minds. They themselves were murderous people. Civilization was never simpler back then. If anything it was harder. Killing people in certain times was less punishable than say a virgin having sex before marriage. Murder was forgiven first.
Okay well enought of that. I did enjoy this I just tend to rant about other things before I get to a person poem. lol If you have not noticed. Well, I liked how it was written. It is so true. Our society is sad, but people are fascinated by those types of things. One day they will realize that the way they lived was not correct. You just have to give it some time. Good song.

Good point
I didn't think about it like that. That's so true, people back then killed moreso than us. They didn't have many laws that said killing was bad. And lol I've noticed, it helps me a lot with my writing. I don't even know what made me want to write it, but i'm glad you read it
