His Moonlit Legacy

His Moonlit Legacy

The girl to capture this man's heart
A perfect vision from the start
One pupil of his noble art
  Became his song

To fill his soul with so much worth
And bless him with eternal mirth
This countess from a noble birth
She was his song

In soft moonlight her senses tease
An air upon a summer's breeze
His fingers kissed piano keys
  He wrote her song

Though tortured and his soul in pain
Desire returned, her passions wane
Sonata soft no love to gain
No more his song

Emotions stirred perhaps a tear
A serenade to please the ear
A legacy for us to hear
His greatest song

Thank you for entering the competition. This looks to be one of the best and most appropriate entries so far.

However, I have to say that I am having great difficulty in reading it. PLEASE could you make it more legible? Black typing on a plain white (or at the worst pale pastel) ground, is all that my eyes can cope with at present.

I am at present simply doing the "pre-sorting" of the entries, and will not be judging the competition until at the earliest Monday. So could you please, before then, change the colour-scheme.

And PLEASE note that the rules of the competition specified "no notes or commentaries".

Your words take us along with the musician, through love and loss. Beethoven let us hear the notes of this song, you gave us the words. Thank you!!

I almost had to go and put the music on that this was inspired from, it is so soft and gentle and the repetitive nature of the piece is beautiful. Love, C

A beautiful and captivating interpretation of Moonlight Sonata, Sue. (just wish you'd remember to use apostrophes in words like "man's" and "summer's").

    Cheers,

Very well done! And informative as well. I was tempted to say "no fool like an old fool" but then remembered that I've walked that road myself... good luck in the contest!

  • wow. I must say I'm very impressed with this one. you even include background information in your author's notes! Beethoven is my favorite composer and this song just happens to be my favorite of his works. While I listen to the song and read your poem I can see the picture clearly in my head, very well done!!

Does this good stuff just flow from your pen, or do you have to work at it? This even has some of the rhythm aspects of the sonata. Great work!
