A plane flies high above
I wonder if he's going to the war
Following after my dear brother and father.
A tear slides from my eye as painful memories surround me
Of a boy I met two weeks before he left,
he was only 18!
He had left and a week later his parents got a distressing letter
Their oldest son was shot down in his beautiful plane.
Why, oh why is it always the young who die for our contry?
He should have lived and got himself a bride!
I only wish I could have at least said good bye and had him leave with three words:
I love you
