We've Been Wondering?

What we got here, what's the world coming to?
Look at the choices in two-thousand eight!
Black man and a Woman...candidates!
I 'm so excited, don't know what to do.
Five scores and two major wars had to pass
for the right to vote and the fall of the Klan
but let’s not forget the lessons we learned
in rising as meek and conquering lands.

It is our turn though, we have paid great debt
The first shall be last is what I hear say
Guess we're looking at that this very day
This isn't the end, we're not finished yet
As a matter of fact, we just begun to fight.
We're nowhere near the light. We're in it 'TIL the end
against ideas that are like telegraphs to cell phones.
So tell them all to go home and send our soldiers in.

We're sick and tired of worn-out wars and chores,
and never be-fores with scores of lies and alibis
the size of Mt. Everest, we detest violence,
selling us whatever vendors think the poor buys
Like we get weapons of mass destruction
and plane loads of coke with kids in prison.
Why's it hard for the man on the bottom
while you fat cats only see the winnings?

And in the end who truly wins when we are blown to bits
All those fits we had that some say were whines
Have shown their true faces in spaces feared sublime
I'm afraid we've made the last mistake and are out of time
Yeah, it's time. This time, right now is our time
to stand in line and vote as one for a change.
Forget splitting decisions--that's a shame...
Would Clinton and Obama holding hands been so strange?

Author notes

Dez is one of the most interesting poets on this site to me. He is a man of great intelligence, and wit. It has been my pleasure to have collaborated with him on this work of poetry.

This is the second in a series of collaborations with invited guests. Hmmmm...I wonder who will be next.

Hope you enjoy!

Brilliant!! I'll be happy if either one of them get into office myself but i'm really hoping that Obama gets it. Two great minds come together as one in this amazing collab! Great job you two!

I thought the same thing when I found out Obama and Clinton were running. I was furious to hear someone say that the Democratic Party is going to be a joke for having a black man and a woman both running. I am glad that they are now the two most qualified candidates running for the presidency. Goes to show the unmarked American Anglo male isn't the only power of USA anymore.

The time for change is here because all over the US people are finally awake and realising it. it has taken time and thousands have died for it not to forget the Iraqis and Afghanis whose numbers will never be known. It was a war to keep a man in power a man who did not deserve to be, who had nothing to give his great country but has now made it so much poorer and may have even made some lose faith in the greatest ideal of all democracy.Thousands today in the US are suffering due to recession and the ripples are spreading world wide, the dollar is losing its might but it is not just about money.. it is about so many wrong decisions and so much in funds wrongly spent that could have gone for health care, fighting crime and a better education system which are the real needs of the day.
Clinton or Obama whoever comes will inherit a mess few Presidents have had to contend with. They both have something to give, I just hope that whoever will win will be upto the Herculean task Good Luck America... your future is now only in your hands.

You two write like one brilliant mind, this is a great collaboration. The message really captures the opportunity and the weight of this moment in history. Wise words, and well penned, friends! And that border is so cool.

    Prayer is the best answere

I fear someone is praying for us , while another one is praying against us. Do what you must . why should domeone have to keep standing over you if you want to change your mind. Get with the program or buck off. We don't need more problems. What all you said was as true as it comes...mac

Is the picture of a man's foot and a lady's foot done on purpose.
This is a tremendous election year take on the goings-on!
You know that six hundred dollars I'm getting as a rebate? I think you spell that "Re-bait" in DC. Well you can take that and get a one way ticket back home for one of the GI's.

Good job on this poem Renee and friend.
Lets make it "curtains" for The Republican Party, for a little while at least!
