Of Condemnation and the Misery of Singularity

The twin impediments of time and distance
Have joined hands in conspiratorial endeavor
To unjustly deny our hearts' intents,
To render unto such sweetness a cold severance.

But lo, I speak as one whose favor and attention
Are gladly returned, summarily requited,
When the stark truth is much grimmer, and far less tender:
When the reality is that I am in a vacuum.

Adrift, alone, in an ocean of gaiety,
Among others' paired smiles and kisses,
I sink in the sorrowful sentence, a small susurration
From these parched lips do precious little to ease.

The obstructive connivers, in jaunty dances,
Tease and provoke the boiled-over heart
That unaccompanied must swim around fortunate couples
Who, in finding each other, have found themselves.

Lonely, and dare I use the word again..alienated..but doesn't that feeling make for some great writing. I know my best work and greatest inspiration comes from the ugly in the world.
