Simply… A Poet (An Observer of Life)

I am who I am.
There is no changing me.
Though writing hasn’t always been my dream.
Being an artist,
Drawing pencil portraits
Was always my childhood dream;
Drawing with lines of graphite
Upon a canvas of life.

My creativity as an artist is now with words and emotions.
I am not a grand word master.
I have never claimed to be.
Nothing special or fancy.
Just my words from the heart
Written to dig down deep
To touch the heart of the reader.
I am simply… a poet;
An observer of life.

I write because I love it!
It is my way of expressing myself.
Poetry is what gets inside of me,
Lights me up!
It gets under my skin,
In my blood!
It drives my being’s inner desires.
It gives me a passion;
A purpose in life
To live.
To feel,
To love,
To hope,
To dream!

Poetry is my lifeline.
It keeps me afloat.
It is the heart of this poet’s soul
Where emotions run deep and wide!

Poetry is a voice
That cannot be squelched!
It is a thirst
That cannot be quenched!
It is a hope
That cannot be broken!
It is a fire
That cannot be extinguished!

Poetry is…
And always should be…
Words written for yourself
And always from the heart;
To reach out and touch,
To caress,
To love,
To affect,
To inspire!
Writing poetry is an individual art form.
There is no right or wrong way.
We do not all think alike.
If we did,
We would be engraving meaningless words upon a page.
Nothing unique,
All the same.
What a boring, dull world it would be.

One last thought for the reader to chew…
Simplify.
Simplify.
Simplify.
Less doesn’t always mean more.
More doesn’t always mean less.
We must find a delicate balance.
It is what the reader carries away
That makes all the difference!
