Not Lies

Not lies but half-truths
Supplant my eager good will,
Make impotent my hungry intentions.

And in this aching head
The hopes and promises I make to myself
Whenever I look into your eyes
Resonate with an iron-throated desperation.

Leave the remains, I will brush them up myself,
Nothing but a personal touch will do;
And, let us be honest, yours is not that.

For you are a phantom, a wraith, a specter
That haunts the vulnerable heart
With grudging oaths and false kindness,
And the shadowy taste of deceitful kisses burns my soul.

Not lies but leaden assurances
Oust my well-meant desires
And freeze the heat of my expectations to non-existence.

I definitely agree: for once I'm glad I was wrong! Thanks for the comments, they're very sweet and... encouraging .

Intense feelings are felt throughout this write! A very harsh reality that sometimes slaps us in the face, but isn't it great when we prove our own thoughts wrong? I may not be wording that in just the way I would like to, but anyhow.....excellent work!

Very dark but beautiful write here. Strong feelings. Sounds very harsh to whomever. Alot of lies and deceit presented here. This shows just how bad all kinds of love can be. Thanks for sharing.
