This is what you were meant to be.
I wouldn't stop you if I had the means
Just know that it's killing me.
I knew all the values this lifestyle brings
And swore that I'd never fall.
But knowing and living are two diff'rent things,
Selfless service the hardest of all.
And so I will sit here and watch you walk away,
And pretend I'm not dying inside.
I may not show you, but I wish you would stay,
If I smile when you leave, then I lied.
Author notes
Eh, I don't know if I like the way this one turned out...there is so much more I wanted to say, and I'm not even sure if what I did say makes sense.
I'm in the Army and he's in the Army and we were together. But he had his heart set on going Airborne, which would put him in N.Carolina, while I was staying in Texas and getting deployed to South Korea soon. Now I'm in Korea and he's in Iraq, and we haven't spoken in months.

This is beautiffully penned. The Mil-Mil thig is hard to work out, I have seen it so many times first hand. Love is love no matter what. and even though you lost him, I am sure the two of you will always have a place in the others heart. You are BEautiful, You are strong, You are independent, And You deserve all the happiness the world can bring you. Good luck on lifes journey and Thank you much for sharing this with me.

I think your a strong woman, I admire you and thank you for your service. Hope it works out for both of you. I think with your notes the poem stands well.

That must be so hard for you
this was beautifully written, with raw emotions - and a show of how you try so hard to stay strong but it cannot be easy

I think it's great
While every poem can be made better, sometimes a poem is best left alone and I believe in this case your poem is one of those. Maybe you set yourself very high standards to reach and felt this one didn't quite get there. Well for my money I think you did well soldier. -

"But knowing and living are two diff'rent things"

Mass Potential
It has immense potential. It has the heartache of lost love and the agony of unrequited passion. It speaks of hope and fear and the consequence of doing the right thing...the giving up of present desires. Continue revising, make it a series...
