Letting You Go

You have to go and live your dream,
This is what you were meant to be.
I wouldn't stop you if I had the means
Just know that it's killing me.

I knew all the values this lifestyle brings
And swore that I'd never fall.
But knowing and living are two diff'rent things,
Selfless service the hardest of all.

And so I will sit here and watch you walk away,
And pretend I'm not dying inside.
I may not show you, but I wish you would stay,
If I smile when you leave, then I lied.

Author notes

Eh, I don't know if I like the way this one turned out...there is so much more I wanted to say, and I'm not even sure if what I did say makes sense.

    I think it's great

While every poem can be made better, sometimes a poem is best left alone and I believe in this case your poem is one of those. Maybe you set yourself very high standards to reach and felt this one didn't quite get there. Well for my money I think you did well soldier.

I can really relate to the line

"But knowing and living are two diff'rent things"

This is a really strong piece- I def. like how it turned out. I hope to read more of your work!!!!!

    Mass Potential

It has immense potential.  It has the heartache of lost love and the agony of unrequited passion. It speaks of hope and fear and the consequence of doing the right thing...the giving up of present desires. Continue revising, make it a series...
