Mosaic

Fragmentary soul,
like a mosaic,
spread across the universe
in tiles too small to see.

Each proton a star,
each electron a planet,
yet all connecting,
singing quietly in the unknown.

A song that spreads
like a silk veil,
reaching across existence;
does this blanket comfort or crush?

There are those that can hear,
like the sound of the sea
in a shell on the beach,
but can they interpret the song?

Is there consciousness in its thought,
does it reach out with intelligence
or is it a mechanical reflex,
like chimes in the wind?

Are you God or nature,
we ask the song, yearning;
is there really any purpose,
or just mathematic improbabilities?

We are linked, you and I,
you to me, me to all;
we each carry pieces of the picture,
like a jigsaw waiting to be assembled.

Author notes

User name: Evil Fills The Sky

I thought I would explain this one a little, as best I can. I don't really believe in one set thing, as I have never found one set thing I can identify with to believe in, but I do believe there are bits and pieces of the truth in all religions, thus the theme of this piece being a mosaic. So, I guess you could say I am closest to being a universalist, though I do have other sympathies.

As for God, Im still not entirely sure if there is or isn't one, I certainly haven't had any standout circumstances where I have felt his/her/their/it's presence, though I continue to listen, learn and keep my eyes open. Personally, and this is also what this piece adresses, I think it is possible, that if there is a bieng it is so alien to what we can imagine that we could never understand it, all along we have just been humanising something we don't understand.

The main idea behind this piece is that this 'God' being, or soul, is actually not a whole being, but fragmented throughout creation, all creation carries part of it inside it, thus the Universe (or even multiverse if you believe in such a thing) as a whole, may well be the very being that we call God, and we and everything in it are just a constituent part of it.

(If that makes any sense).

    Yes your author's notes make a great deal of sense except for this: There must have been energy before matter in order for matter to form. God by its creative nature is energy. Therefore God was before matter. (I could explain it better but I have a contest to judge!) So I'm assuming that God is in everything but is also unique to itself. The universe itself contains but isn't God because though it contains energy it's made of matter. Also that though we all contain God we can contain more by drawing it in because it exists within and without. (I'm very greedy so insist on containing as much as it's possible to contain!)

    You might be aware that since my theology studies I've decided I'm a Universalist. An excellent entry but I wish you hadn't put your name, it's meant to be anonymous. I shall confiscate your penguin later you naughty boy!

      Thank you very much. It is a tough subject matter to write with (for those who don't have a strong faith or who belong to one of the mainstream belief structures). Very hard to articulate at times thoughts and musings.
