I saw you again last night.
You gave no earth shattering advice.
Instead, in your kitchen
with its tiny pine cabinets
crowded countertops
and Formica table,
you carved Sunday's roast beef,
mashed potatoes on the stove,
whisked gravy from meat's drippings
and steamed fresh string beans.
I inhaled memories as familiar
and dear as your arched eyebrows
and sunny smile.
Then I woke and remembered
you're not here
and yet, you are.
I miss you, Mom.

Author notes
I sense my mother as alive in my dreams. I know where her soul is. I know she's at peace. I know she loves me, and I'll see her again.
5) Memories, but relived in dreams.

I like the imagery of your poem. It's touching and well written. The ending is sweet. Memories of a loved one that has passed away are forever in our hearts.
Thank you very much for your entry

This is very touching, sad. I too lost my mother and have no memories of her. She passed from breast cancer when I was just 14 months. she was 29. This is a beauiful tribute for your mom...blessings, Patty

Really? When I dream, if I sense her, I sense her as alive, as part of what is going on.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Insightful write, presenting that it is in the sweet, ordinary events of the common day that we often reconnect. My favorite part, "I wake up and remember you're not here...and yet, you are." Much enjoyed

Thank you for Entering
It's always important to experience the moment though sometimes the message may not be in what we hear but what we see. Thank you for sharing your experience in the moment. Peace in light and love. Be well.

You're right. I always enjoy seeing her.
I think her message is: I'm happy, I love you. My message: I miss you, I love you, I'm glad you're happy.
