The Epitome of Arrogance

I should not have started writing,
for now it will never end.
There is so much disappointment
and fury and anger and hate
and tears all pent up inside.
Wars started without declaring war,
Innocents killed both here and there.
We claim we are the victim,
Yet they are victims too.
Women and children in Iraq have died as well.
We cannot keep fighting and expect to win,
only lose with the smallest amount of destruction.
What we need now is a leader, not a heartless soldier.
We need someone who can inspire,
not destroy.
So we can change the negative view
of all the world's countries
In regards to us.
I'm sick of waiting for a miracle
to fix the miraculous stupidity of some.
Let's kill people that kill people to stop the killing.
Makes sense? Didn't think so.
Nothing does these days.
So I'll wrap this up: We need change now!
And nothing short of speaking out
Will bring this change around.

I couldn't agree with you more. We kill people to condemn killing people.. it's like that in wars and with the death penalty. How is that justified? I'll never understand. People always think that we're only killing terrorists in Iraq.. but we are killing civilians. We are killing women and children. We are killing Iraqis AND americans. We are the terrorists to them like they are the terrorists to us.. and I don't understand how fighting fire with fire can make anything better. Great job

    • Back in March of '08 you said:

"I couldn't agree with you more. We kill people to condemn killing people.. "
      and
"I don't understand how fighting fire with fire can make anything better."

Iraq and Iran had an uneasy truce... that Sunni/Shia thing. Saddam might well have picked a fight with Ahmedinajad as he had with Khomeini before him. A long protracted war between those two states may well have killed a million on either side, or more. By nipping Iraq in the bud, that's no longer much of a consideration. Ahmedinajad likes rattling his saber, but then again, every third-world tin horn dictator is fond of doing that.

Saddam liked to keep us guessing as to whether he was after WMDs or not. You know they did ship 550 tons of yellowcake out of Iraq some months ago. Given a little more time, Saddam could have become a class "A" nuisance.

Maybe our war wasn't right, but spend some time at mnf-iraq.com to get a sense of all the rebuilding we've done over there. We've not only built stuff ourselves (schools, hospitals, electrical distribution networks, etc.) but we've trained tens of thousands of Iraqis a broad range of technologies and processes that they will be able to use to bring themselves into the 21st century. Dittos Afghanistan.

Yes, it's sad when we kill good folks when we're trying to get the bad guys, but a decade or two down the line, if Iraq is able to hold on to the freedom it has been given... the potential for a much more prosperous nation than anything possible under the tyrannical thumb of Saddam, is great.

      Best to you.

You just keep on writing and writing it with the passion you expressed here and now, and post it to every billboard and poetry board, in every corner of cyber space that you can find. You, me, the writers, the singers, the poets, the bards, the jounalists, we as the voice of the people CAN change the world. All it takes is one step. Like you, I constantly voice my internal dialog of; "Since when did 'two wrongs do not make it right' become 'but three does'."

OMHO, but I believe we need to stop basing our morality on sexuality and start walking the walk instead of just talking the talk. What do we see on the news, in every newspaper, hear from every tight walking politician and podium pounding preacher along the way? "We teach love, but we hate you. Everyone is happy, everyone is free, but if you don't get in line and believe like everyone else, we will put you away. We turn the other cheek, but only to damage your psyche for a lifetime, because we have smart bombs that only kill bad people. Why should we care about global warming, this is the Armageddon and we mean to ride the warhead to destruction with the bible in hand, 'cause we have been saved and are forgiven."

I call it the "Rapture". It was termed that way to me by an article on the website, "the news they don't want you to hear about" and brought to mind of Blondie who released a song in the early 80's where the Rapture landed on earth and ate all the bars and the cars and then started eating all the people. Listening to it then, I had no idea how it was very prophetic of a future to be if we continued on our "Don't worry, be happy" theme of the Reagan years.

DrunkenRam's comments should be taken with a grain of salt, as...well, look at the chosen name for identity. Walking away from a losing battle that we are in for all the wrong reasons, is not losing or winning, but logically thinking through what should be. No one wins in war. We all are harmed beyond recognition of what we once were, and incur more karmic debt than we have life times to live.

Thank you for entering my contest. Thank you for writing about what you believe to be truth with the passion of one that has asked the questions of one's own soul. Please do WRITE ON!

    Blessed Be~

"we cannot keep fighting and expect to win" that is the statement of someone who has lost before the fight began.
Don't mean to be harsh, but quiting is losing, and most of us Americans are winners.
