At The Front

High and mighty we will stand
In the trenches, lost and found
The shells fire away
Left right and centre my comrades are dead
With our bayonets we charge
Leap over the weak and wounded
And like animals, we attack
Back at the front it’s the same old story
Before this war patriotism took its hold
And now, a more cynical view,
Holds us captive
Like the enemy who makes us stand tall and frightened
In our boots, passed on from friend to friend
When finally we are all dead to pass them on
Not as glorious as they all think
Or as wonderful as they believe
Only horrible in life and death

this was inspired by a book i read for history "all quiet on the western front"

    this was pretty good. I really liked the message and words that you used; I think that it could use some work on punctuation. sometimes more commas and periods are needed; I felt like many lies just ran into another; with some editing, I would probably love this piece

    Nice job! I think this could work for almost any war. War is horrible no matter which war you're in. I wish our politians had understood before making the choices they do. But, at the same time I do understand there is 'still' a reason behind it. It might not directly affect me, but then it could and I just don't see it.

    I support the troops and what they go through. I have lost friends...and family.

    You did a great job conveying the history of war, and brought awareness and feeling! Nice job.

    haha all quiet inspired you to write this?
    this reminds me of my war poem
    but i like yours.
    it relates well to the book and everything we learned about the idea of war.
