Our trip across the sea - A Non Entry

Our trip across the sea - A Non Entry

We took a trip across the Tasman sea,
my daughter Shaz and me to visit Hugh.
With smile so big he greeted us with glee:
“It’s really great to see the two of you.”

To Shaz, it was at last a dream come true;
not having been across the sea before.
We’d planned our days together there with Hugh
and off we’d go to see the sights galore.

Ten days we spent in En Zed on the run -
we went to places near and far away.
In Akaroa we had special fun
as Dolphins swam around the boat at play.

The Gondola above the hills so high
with café where we sat to have some food;
the souvenir shop, gifts that we could buy;
the scenery soon puts you in the mood.

The tourist tram and Orbiter was grand;
a trip to wildlife sanctuary a must.
Thai restaurants - the best food in the land
with quite enough to make me feel I’ll bust.

A night at Willowbank wildlife reserve
to watch the Maori show, a four course meal,
a walk to see live kiwis and observe
their habitat. The whole night was unreal.

Most everywhere we went we had ice cream
and coffee cups the biggest ever seen!
The list goes on. Oh! How we lived our dream
to show the sights to Shaz who’d never been.

The moment of farewell came round too fast.
To Hugh and Edna - time to say goodbye.
It broke our hearts to leave - we stayed till last
and, as the plane flew out, we had a cry.

    Dear AJ, I'm so sorry we weren't there when you and Sharon came over to Christchurch. Heath and I had to make an unexpected trip which I explained to you on the telephone. I'm so pleased that you all had such a wonderful time, Sharon really needed the break.
    A beaut poem.
    Love Hine.

      The food was FANTASTIC! And the fish! YUMMY better than I've tasted in Australia. The Thai food was DELICIOUS and they actually have a cafe in the Library where you can have home cooked food, the sausage rolls were scrumptious.

    There are some vacations we wish could go on forever and this sounds like one of those. I'm glad you and Hugh had a chance to visit again and this time with your daughter, too.

    I'm sure that Hugh and Edna enjoyed this visit as much as you and Shaz did. This is the one which you and I had talked about Sal and I joining you all... things change, though. But who knows, maybe another time. Wouldn't that be fun

    A great poem about a wonderful time, Joan

      It sure was a great holiday Dee and I remember you and Sal were going to be there. Maybe next year when I go again you'll be able to make it. As it would be good to meet you and Sal.

    Bonza vacation!

    Your visit with Hugh and Edna sounds terrific, Joan, you were so busy and packed in a lot of memories. The food sounds wonderful too. (My husband says I am "menu driven".) You have so much in common with Hugh, and these visits add cement to a solid friendship.

    Dear Joan,

    I loved reading about the great time you and your daughter, Sharon, had with Hugh and Edna. I only wish I could have been there to share the good times with all of you..BUT it's nice to live vicariously through you!!

    Excellent poem expressing your happiness when arriving, the good times while staying and your sadness when leaving. (Leaving is the only bad part!)

    Love and Hugs,
    ♥ Maureen

    Dear Bea and Shaz,

    Your visit gave unmitigated pleasure.
    For me it was a joy that had no measure.
    Our itinerary might
    have included every sight
    but left us little time for rest or leisure!

    Although our final parting was a pain,
    I hope that you will both soon come again.
    Meantime, we'll keep in touch
    'coz I love you both so much.
    I'll be at the airport waiting for your plane!

    Your poem says it all! Beautifully! I'm missing you both. Thankyou for your lovely verses.
    With much love and huge hugs, XOXOXO Hugh (R.)

    Excellently written piece!

    Joan, this is an excellently-written-piece of poetry. I love it! I hope that someday you can come to America/Arkansas so that we can meet in person. You are a dear friend even if we have never met in person. Sometimes online friends can be just as close as ones that have met in person.
    Take care my friend, and keep writing. I know that you will.
    Your American Friend,
    Damon

      Dear Damon, It would be great if I could come and meet you and your family one day. I find that too Damon, the friends I've met on Ap I feel very close to them.
