Though he maintained that
She didn’t deserve the grace
After what she’d done,

Ev’ry now and then
She would call, when things got bad,
And he would help her.

They were lovers once,
Although he just said that it
Was complicated.

(“Complications” are
Rarely birthed in the form of
Late night coffee dates.)

I let him pretend
Only she was in need,
And he wasn’t in love.
