"This began amidst the trees," you say,
"where strangefruit births like flora water
and the winged travelers rest to drink of its delight."
I recall now the coppice, the frondescence, and prose—
how coyly you brushed my thigh with your heaven hands,
and how like an insect you penetrated all my honeyed loci
and gave to me
new Eyes.
“Are we the fruit or the travelers?” I ask.
You do not reply, but instead bite my bottom lip and tongue the citrus that flows forth.
Author notes
My Lover and I often reflect upon "that day in the grove" where, as freshly acquainted, we first shared beauty, reading to one another our favorite excerpts from our favorite books. So sweetly I recall the trees, his voice, and the brilliance of Word.

Another poem to me that represents our contest theme of fresh and sensual so perfectly, I am happy you keep these moments alive and fresh in your mind (or a poem) with your lover.
Beautiful vocabulary...
"“Are we the fruit or the travelers?” ..yes...it is so hard to tell, very fresh, you two are

"how coyly you brushed my thigh with your heaven hands"..I love that...
I love this poem! Thanks so much for your entry..

“Are we the fruit or the travelers?” I ask.
This is reminiscent of Omar Khayyam's quatrain, "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and Thou..." ~ so beautiful, it requires utter silence in order to inhale the sighs between each line. A sensual feast, indeed. Good luck in the contest, my Friend. ~ Wanda

So glad. It is my hope both to read and to force my reader to do so slowly and with pauses so as to allow time for each word to blossom (because with such a beautiful language, each word deserves ample time!)
Thank you for your kind comment.

Oh this is beautiful... what a way to celebrate the memory of that beautiful time. This is indeed fresh and sensual and so filled with love. And what is more fulfilling and beautiful than being among the trees with your loved one, his voice in your ear, reading poetry... sighs!!
