Over The Edge

She first met love on the coast line
the cruelest form of disillusionment
The ideas of love, the expectations of
what love is and what love can do
crept up behind her as she watched
the wild waves break below
it blindfolded her and
took her by the hand;
begging her to trust it
begging her to believe.
just when she felt in
safe hands
love betrayed her
pushing her
off the edge
sending her
free falling
spiraling through
the unknown
spinning in
slow motion
to her
doom.

Author notes

I've been asked about this poem before and you can take it either as a metaphor for the emotions that she felt about love and because of love or more literally as motivation for a suicide.
