Sittin' here in the cradle of civilization
Wall Street just a hummin' those c*cksucker blues
Playin' my guitar comin' to the realization
When it's early in the mornin' I'm still lookin' for clues
Lookin' out my window from the forty-fourth storey
Rain is makin' rivers of the streets below
Listenin' to the Stones on an old MP3 player
I'm closer to Nirvana than you will ever know
[CHORUS]
An' it's 3am here in New York city
I'm watchin' all night movies on a widescreen T.V
It's 3am here an' I'm still sittin' pretty
Got them blues all the way down to New Orleans
Now my guitar is singin' pretty with the tune I'm playin'
I guess I missed my calling before I ever knew
Music has a way to cut you up like chainsaw buzzin'
And leave your soul in pieces that will never do
Just sittin' here thinkin' in New York city
Jack Daniels is a buddy that I used to know
Now is mores the pity 'coz I left it all behind me
I'm just workin' for a living like any ordinary Joe
[CHORUS]
An' it's 3am here in New York city
I'm watchin' all night movies on a widescreen T.V
It's 3am here an' I'm still sittin' pretty
Got them blues all the way down to New Orleans
Now if I had a chance I could have been Keith Richards
In my mind I'm a-walkin' on a fine line of blow
Could have been just like him high as the almighty
Guess I missed my calling now I'll never know
Sittin' here in the cradle of civilization
Wall Street just a hummin' those c*cksucker blues
Playin' my guitar comin' to the realization
When it's early in the mornin' I'm still lookin' for clues

Wow, I really enjoyed this. I loved the juxtaposition of a country-style feeling versus the sophisticated city of New York. This really would work great as either a rock song or a country song. I loved the slang, and the pop culture references helped make the poem so relevant. Very good work, there.
