Warm arms
Surrounding me
Telling me it’s okay
When I was born
Much too soon
He cheered me on
All the way
Big hands
Holding me up
Taking me first steps
Guiding me
Through my first steps
In life
Encouraging voice
Pushing me on
Wheels turning
Churning, churning
The bike glides through the grass
He told me I could do it
I could
Loud voices
Fighting
Teenagerdom
I don’t like it
Walking down the isle
My dad smiles my way
Thumbs up
I say
I can do it
I could
First baby
Small and dear
My dad
Now a grandpa
He’ll be good
I can tell
I cry
I moan
Some people stare
My daddy’s is gone
Then I realize
He’s not!
He’s been here
All along
Here
Guiding me
Through life
