Hold The Babies!

2nd and 3rd generations in a state of confusion
All brought on by social intrusion
Making them think it's real but it's all an illusion
And because of it they have no moral constitution
They think money is the solution to all of their ills
They think cause they clocking hundreds and thousands of dollar bills
Ain't got no solid foundation but a bunch of frills
They don't know what to do next, cause gone are the thrills

Gone is their innocence they play at being mature
Misbehavior and deception is what they procure
Maybe it's because at so young they must endure
The senselessness this world spits at 'em for sure
What are we sharing, what do the kids daily see
Yup! You got it madamcb it's all about the money
The superficial, earthly riches, a fake reality
It's in their vision, what they strive, and live for honey

I got mad love for 'em though, they got my heart
They can't know where they going if they don't know their start
We gotta educate 'em, we gotta do our part
To let 'em know they are priceless, that they are beautiful and smart
Ain't gotta shake that booty ain't gotta be profane
Ain't gotta let nobody call them outta their name
Yeah they can be for real, they got a right to seek fame
But respect for self and others they gotta retain

So we pull them off the streets into alternative school
Teach a new way of learning where they can keep their cool
Then can't nobody judge 'em, they won't be nobody's fool

Encourage them to use their talent as the surest tool
That will make their way in life, I mean living fine, living good
For I know as a youngster I was often misunderstood
Rebuild the board-up houses in the neighborhood
Have the government fund us, now you know they should

Then we work on the parents, the first of the lost
Let em' know letting kids do anything they want comes with a cost
Daddy and Mama, you gotta be the boss
Cause if you don't sooner or later you the one they gonna cross
Just do the next right thing, is that too much to ask
Stop dealin' and stealin' and killin' is that such a task
Reach back to the ancestors and bring forth the past
Remember we were first and we will be the last

Author notes

This is the first in a series of collaborations I plan to hold with my favorites.

madamcb and me are real life business partners and have been for the past 15 years. We are planning a big Hullabaloo in April at The UpStage Studio Company (our new studio spot) to celebrate. We have toured many plays, all over the country, and brought to life various Harlem Renaissance personalities using costume pieces and props.

We have our own style of rapping, please keep in mind we are both grandmothers.

Thanks for reading and any constructive critique.

How very true it is to take on this task, but if we don't do it, then who will? It's time to clean up the future of us and set it right. I can understand this point of view very well and applause this poem with all my heart...

    Cosmic Mother Life Giving

This write is written in the sky these vibes flow through the air powered by emotions from souljahs past present and future. This write is in the earth the water all the elements bear witness to Mother male and female spring forth from a tripple dark womb and her words her actions her stoic nature brings to light realities we some times forget and slip into the fad the profanity the foolishness of the times and yet Mother Brings you back. I enjoyed this it's style the language down to earth the message yes the message and it touched my heart. Thank you for sharing and may the struggle continue until real change takes root. Peace.

How very true this is. I have been dealing with parents where I live that let their kids do whatever. The things I see them do now, makes me really worry about them later in life. And the parents don't care enough to even tell them to stop, even if they see them doing it!!

    Awesome Write!!!!!!

I totally agree with you, as a daycare provider I see the early effects of the lack of disipline. Children know at a young age that they cannot be touched {Spanked} by anyone other than their parents. But to many parents do not believe in spanking, telling children what is right and what is wrong. You have done a remarkble job on this piece and brought our much needed message front and center!!! Thanks for sharing!!!~~Toni~~

This is absolutly brilliant. I swear.. I am in awe the volumes of truth this speaks. It seems so easy, we should be able to take back our children, our lives, out streets...

I see so much beauty in these words. You two did an amazing job. I tried to decide, who wrote what, but its almost impossible. At first, I thought Renee did the first set of lines, but then madamcb was mentioned in the second set, so I thought maybe Renee wrote those.. so conused. but in a good way. You two keep a solid commanding voice. Collaborations are hard because we are so individual as writers. The only difference I could hear in the voice of the lines was one set of lines would use words like em' and the next set, was more proper and back and forth...

I love this so much I am going to share it with my mom. =)
