Remembering

She stared at the water in her hands
as slowly it leaked away to nothing.
And as she watched it, drip, drip, drip,
she wondered amazed at all that water meant to her.

There were of course the tears that she cried;
tears of joy, sorrow, and odd in-betweens.
The taste of salt in her mouth as
they flowed down her cheeks and off of her face hitting the floor.

There was the water she drank, day in
and day out without thinking about it.
She had heard once you died after
three days without water(as she let it slip away).

But, of all the things that water brought
to mind, the best (and worst) was this. The small lake
where she and her grandfather fished.
There were so many memories to sort through and feel!

The feel of the tall grass on the banks,
the first fish she had caught, the deer standing
by the trees, the myriad birds,
diving, swimming, and flying, as she sat watching them.

She drew her hands apart and let the
rest of the water fall away from her.
Her memories rushed after it
as a tear of water formed in her eye for him now gone.
