Author notes

Prompt: nonsense verse
Trijan Refrain with internal rhyme

Trijan Refrain
The Trijan Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of three 9-line stanzas, for a total of 27 lines. Line 1 is the same in all three stanzas, although a variation of the form is not to repeat the same line at the beginning of each stanza. In other words, the beginning line of each stanza can be different. The first four syllables of line 5 in each stanza are repeated as the double-refrain for lines 7 and 8. The Trijan Refrain is a rhyming poem with a set meter and rhyme scheme as follows:

Rhyme scheme: a/b/a/b/c/c/d,d refrain of first 4 words of line five /c

Meter: 8/6/8/6/8/8/4, 4 refrain

Translation:

If you take the time to speak in rhyme,
casting a magic spell.
Your heart will climb and bells will chime,
learning to do it well.
Put it in verse not as a curse,
we hate it when rhymes are perverse.
Put it in verse
Put it in verse
I’ll teach you to rhyme in reverse.

Listen to me and you will see
a rhyme can turn on the light.
I’m sure you’ll agree, I have the key
if you can say it right.
This is the way that you must say
to open the magic array.
This is the way
This is the way
I give you this lesson today.

Just say this line say it in rhyme,
it is a magic word.
Words that combine and intertwine,
certainly sound absurd.
Now let’s rehearse words in reverse,
I t’s magic that you can disperse.
Now let’s rehearse
Now let’s rehearse
Repeat after me: "a sows ear purse".

I am not sure about this one. Without the translation it is brilliant nonsense and that is what I marked. With the translation maybe it is something else? Either way it is poetry, and the translation is as poetical as the original. Great use of the form.

I can't help but agree with Lane... You are a genius! At this point even the little gnome dude on the left couldn't make this any more magical! I won't read the others, this has to be Golden!
