Who's the Artist?

Artists call green
a cold color,
a mix of old and ice,
antithesis of the
warm, passionate reds
and their paler pink selves.
But I say look at those
maple leaves in June,
feel the sandpaper edge
of bluegrass,
smell the sage in the sun,
and tell me they’re chilly
when they speak so much
of life.

This poem makes me think of summer, of spring...the seasons when we can hear the sound of green, and yes, of life too. I guess that is why we talk of evergreen... a quality that no other colour has been granted with!

I really like the visual of "sandpaper edge of bluegrass" - that line alone speaks to all the senses but so does the rest of the poem too. I could almost hear and smell this one. I like how you've presented the title as a question... it adds a deeper dimension to this poem. A lovely write - fresh as green.

Thank you for this lovely entry.

I like the attitude you take in these lines - green is life, certainly. So many different shade of green as well. I cannot wear too much of it as it washes me out, but many enjoy this vibrant color.

I like this very much - and you've put colour, texture, scent and temperature all in so few words, and very effectively, so the images live.

As an artist, though, I have to say that because green contains yellow, it is on the warm side of the spectrum, at least, warmer than blue, but not as warm as yellow.

That just goes to show you how elementary my art background it. *laughs* I haven't had an art class since 9th grade or so, and all I remember from there is calling blue, green, and purple cool colors and red, orange, and yellow warm colors. I imagine there are finer gradients than that that highschool students don't get to learn. Thanks for you comments - glad you liked it!
