The War Prayer

In this shadow of the coming darkness,
Tears of absinthe streak my camouflaged face,
Feel the caress of a soothing sadness,
A dusty final breath is choking on the taste,
Hollow glories betray my memories...
Of bright tomorrows and cloudy yesterdays ;

Silent rhapsody traps me within this hole,
Brothers in arms all around me growing cold,
Subtle movements bring the sand alive,
Sleeping angels dreaming at my side,
Hear the whispers of my beating heart...
In restless wish and struggle to survive ;

And phoenix fires burn the sky,
A pretended solemn Fourth of July,
In beautiful colors that paint the night,
Like falling stars and fleeting life,
I see silvers streamers and ornaments of gold,
Fountains of honey and sweet smelling oils,
Come ferry me home...
To all the faces of love I have known,
Waiting for to touch me,
Come shelter my soul from this growing cold ;

All across this desert land,
The rapture of blood and sand,
Hear the cries of confused wrongs and rights,
Under the gaze of command...
I hold the pin in frozen hand,
Shivering in the abandon of delight,
I am but a bullet in the belly of the beast,
A righteous sword whose antichrist...
Shall rise in the east,
Like glorious puppets on a string...
Whose truth and bitter herbs will sooth the sting ;

I will believe I am free,
I will believe I still breathe,
I will believe I can redeem,
I will believe I am the dream,
Somebody hear me :

Still I lay here under the watchful starlight,
The eyes of heaven as they must surely be,
No sound persuades me to falter from my sight,
No power on this earth to look not left nor right,
For she was my sister...
Who now stares at me in emptiness,
He was my brother...
Who fell so close my lips felt his last breath,
Fireworks and apple pie distract my madness,
Frozen glacial here within this hole,
Devils take me...angels forsake me,
All is dreamtime come to wing me home ;

And phoenix fires burn the sky,
I revel in this pretended Fourth of July,
In beautiful colors that paint the night,
Like falling stars and fleeting life,
I see silvers streamers and ornaments of gold,
Fountains of honey and sweet smelling oils,
Come ferry me home...
To all the faces of love I have known,
Waiting for to touch me,
Come shelter my soul from this growing cold ;
